RUMI
Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian muslim poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic. I find that his ideas and teachings are perfect to reinforce the ethos a performer needs in order to get through their challenging lives. Here are some of my favourites:
“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”
“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?”
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
“Forget safety.
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
Be notorious.”
“Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you. Unfold your own myth.”
“A thousand half-loves must be forsaken to take one whole heart home.”
